A Whisky Appreciation Society that meets quarterly to discuss, taste and imbibe quality whiskies from around the world.
Around the world and back home to Blighty!
After nearly three years tasting whiskies from around the world, it was nice to return home to taste whiskies from Blighty for our May meeting at Castle Catterall.. even though our attendance numbers were quality but not quantity!
The first whisky we tasted was the excellent The One - Sherry Experience from The Lakes Distillery in Cumbria with gorgeous aromas of toffee and gentle wood smoke and a creamy taste of vanilla essence.
Second up (and the favourite on the night) was a superp and powerful Cotswolds Founders Choice - Cask Strength whisky from The Cotswold Distillery and had wonderful aromas of almond butter, black pepper and croissants and a taste of red fruits, butterscotch and peaches in syrup.
Lastly we dived into The English - Red Wine Single Cask from the St George's Distillery in Norfolk that had a nose of boiled sweets and woody spices, accompanied by a palate of rich dark fruits with notes of red apple.
It was an excellent evening and we were all surprised with the great quality and complexity of English Aqua Vitae!
Check out the whiskies in more detail under the 'Whiskies Tasted' Tab above... as well as the 'May 2019 - English' Tab under 'Meetings' above.
Many thanks to Graham & Sue for their hospitality.
We had hoped to have a WACWAC BBQ at Tim Everest's place but sadly, Tim has severely 'done his back in' and is suffering ongoing pain at the moment, so can't commit to a future currenly. So unless we hear otherwise, our next meeting will take place on Friday 23rd August at Ian Fowkes-Smith abode.
More details nearer the time.
